DeCurret DCP Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and CEO & COO: Keisei Hirako) serves as the secretariat for the "Digital Currency Forum" (hereinafter, "the Forum"), which brings together various companies and organizations to discuss the ideal form of digital currency and payment infrastructure. The Forum aims to build a financial infrastructure suitable for the digital age and contribute to the efficiency and development of the economy and industry. Currently, 131 companies, local governments, and organizations participate in the Forum. With an all-Japan system, including an advisory board composed of experts in various fields such as law and finance, and government agencies and monetary authorities as observers, the Forum is engaged in the aforementioned discussions and problem-solving.

Following the launch of commercial services for the digital currency "DCJPY" in August 2024, based on the Forum's concept, the Digital Currency Forum's activities from 2025 onwards have seen discussions progress with a stronger focus on implementation through various working groups. Concurrently, the creation of mock-ups tailored to use cases for exhibitions and the study of practical application and standardization of digital payment infrastructure aimed at solving industry and social issues are also advancing. The discussions surrounding digital currency infrastructure are thus entering a new phase. Under these developments, the Forum today published Progress Report No. 5, which summarizes the results of its activities.

Figure: Digital Currency Forum's journey towards DCJPY social implementation

Since its establishment in 2020, the Forum has repeatedly discussed the ideal form of payment infrastructure utilizing new digital technologies such as blockchain and distributed ledger technology, and first indicated the direction that the realization of a yen-denominated digital currency issued by banks is desirable. In line with this proposal, the digital currency "DCJPY" was constructed and has reached practical application.

We will continue our efforts to ensure that the discussions at this Forum contribute to the promotion of DX in Japan through the creation of "next-generation financial infrastructure."

■ Initiatives of each working group introduced in Progress Report No. 5

Working Group/Study Group Name

Initiatives

Electricity Trading Working Group

Following discussions on market trading of institutionalized environmental values and the utilization of digital currency DCJPY, we focused on the business model of "voluntary credits." Within the scope of decarbonization, we are summarizing considerations on how to establish a business that records and evaluates individual decarbonization actions.

Regional Currency Working Group

We are summarizing considerations and ideas for developing regional currencies as social infrastructure, including the basic functions of regional currencies, payment, and data linkage, without relying on specific services or businesses.

Administrative Affairs Working Group

We report on discussions aimed at realizing true administrative DX, with "Once Only" and "Connected One-Stop" as keywords, and the state of demo exhibits at Local Government & Public Week 2025.

Invoice Chain Working Group

In March 2025, we transitioned to team activities that divided verification and research into multiple themes, taking into account differences in industry, company size, and payment frequency. We are summarizing reports from each team aiming to streamline and save labor in inter-company settlements, such as industry standard EDI x DCJPY.

■ 131 Participating Members of the Digital Currency Forum

The initiative, which began with 11 members in a digital currency study group in June 2020, has evolved into the Digital Currency Forum and has now expanded to include 131 members. The Forum has established orientation meetings and use case study meetings for exchanging opinions on use cases with new participants and newly appointed personnel, as well as various working groups to explore new areas for DCJPY utilization. We welcome inquiries from interested companies, local governments, and organizations.
