Initiation of Study on Digital Currency Utilization

The Japan Association of Chain Drug Stores (JACDS; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Atsushi Tsukamoto) and DeCurret DCP Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Chairman, President and CEO: Satoshi Murabayashi) have signed a basic agreement to establish a collaborative framework. By leveraging the 'DCJPY Network' provided by DeCurret DCP and the Digital Currency Forum, for which DeCurret DCP serves as the secretariat, the two organizations have begun exploring the use of the tokenized deposit DCJPY among JACDS members.

1. Background of the Study
   JACDS operates with the mission of promoting the drug store industry as a health industry, collecting and providing information necessary for the development and cultivation of the industry, and contributing to the health and prosperous lives of citizens by making recommendations to consumers, the industry, and the government. As a key measure in its fiscal year 2025 business plan, the association aims to solve issues such as improving store operations and logistics, reducing return rates, and enhancing security. With expectations that the use of tokenized deposits will integrate commercial and financial flows in the supply chain, improve administrative efficiency, and reduce store settlement fees compared to traditional payment infrastructure, JACDS joined the Digital Currency Forum in June 2025 and has been engaged in discussions regarding this initiative.

2. Overview of the Study
   The Digital Currency Forum, which includes over 100 companies, organizations, and local governments, holds working groups for various industries and sectors to examine use cases for digital currency. JACDS has been participating in the Invoice Chain Working Group and general meetings of the Forum. Through this new collaborative framework, the primary initiatives will include: (1) mutual cooperation on the promotion and awareness of tokenized deposits, (2) information sharing and joint promotion toward the adoption of tokenized deposits by JACDS members, and (3) collaboration in other areas deemed necessary by both parties.
