Daigas Energy Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Hiroyoshi Fukutani, hereinafter "Daigas Energy"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Masataka Fujiwara, hereinafter "Osaka Gas"), held a groundbreaking ceremony today at the Kanoya Solar Power Plant (hereinafter "this Power Plant") owned and operated by the company in Kanoya City, Kagoshima Prefecture, and began construction to install a renewable energy co-located storage battery (hereinafter, renewable energy is referred to as "RE", and the storage battery to be installed in this project is referred to as "this storage battery"). In recent years, in areas with a high percentage of RE power generation, such as solar power, the number of output curtailment implementations has been increasing, particularly during the day. Especially in the Kyushu area, the frequency of output curtailment tends to be higher compared to other regions. RE co-located storage batteries can maximize the utilization of RE power by storing daytime solar power that was previously unsupplied due to output curtailment and discharging it during the evening and night. Furthermore, it enables control to suppress fluctuations in solar power generation output caused by weather conditions, contributing to the stabilization of the power grid. In this project, Daigas Energy has proceeded with the selection of the storage battery, basic design, and grid connection discussions with the power company, and will install a storage battery with a rated output of about 2MW and a rated capacity of about 6MWh within the premises of this power plant (generation capacity of about 2MW). After the start of operation, Osaka Gas will remotely control the storage battery. In addition, this power plant is scheduled to transition from the FIT system *1 to the FIP system *2, and Osaka Gas plans to purchase the entire amount of electricity generated and discharged utilizing this power plant and this storage battery. Furthermore, by entering the supply and demand adjustment market utilizing this storage battery, we aim to further contribute to the stabilization of the power grid and expand earnings. The Daigas Group is promoting initiatives to realize carbon neutrality by 2050, and in the storage battery business, aims for an operational scale of 1,000MW *3 by FY2030, combining grid-scale and RE co-located types. Through the expansion of the storage battery business, we will contribute to the further widespread adoption of RE and the stabilization of the power grid, while working towards the realization of a decarbonized society, which is a social issue. Daigas Energy mainly provides low and decarbonized solutions leveraging the strengths of an energy company, centered on the service "D-Lineup" based on the three D's: Decarbonization, Decentralization, and Digitalization. In the storage battery field, we are supporting the introduction of storage batteries co-located with RE or at consumer sites. Through the installation of the storage battery at this power plant, we will accumulate knowledge regarding the design, construction, and operation of storage batteries, and further strengthen the provision of optimal solutions to our customers.
