Itochu Techno-Solutions Corporation (President: Tatsushi Shingu, Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Abbreviation: CTC) will begin handling '3DWorks', a cloud service for the manufacturing industry provided by Fujifilm Business Innovation Japan Corp. (President and CEO: Taiichi Hatabu, Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo), starting in April 2026.

It will significantly streamline decision-making and information sharing during the specification adjustment phase (so-called 'coordination') between development and production departments that occurs during the product prototyping stage, contributing to shorter development periods and cost reductions. The service will be rolled out primarily to a wide range of manufacturing industries, including automotive, home appliances, and industrial machinery.

In the manufacturing industry, while the introduction of 3D CAD in the design process is expanding amid an aging workforce of skilled workers and a labor shortage, 2D paper drawings are still frequently used in the prototyping and manufacturing processes. Factors such as omissions in writing on paper drawings, discrepancies in understanding between departments, and reliance on the tacit knowledge of skilled technicians lead to rework in mold modifications and prototyping, resulting in extended development periods and increased costs.

3DWorks is a cloud service that streamlines decision-making and information sharing by integrating and sharing design and manufacturing data, which is typically scattered across departments and tools, as the master data of a 3D model.

Using highly accurate 3D data technology, it accurately utilizes manufacturing information (PMI) such as dimensions and tolerances included in the design data, and automatically generates 2D drawings and inspection tables based on the information on the 3D model.

Furthermore, by overlaying and visualizing the measurement results of prototypes onto the 3D model, relevant parties can intuitively grasp the location and extent of necessary modifications, allowing consensus-building to proceed rapidly. Because the modification history is automatically accumulated, it reduces the need for repeated modifications and adjustment work, contributing to the prevention of defect recurrence and the utilization and succession of know-how.

In an internal proof-of-concept by Fujifilm Business Innovation Corp., the number of mold trials was reduced by approximately 38%, and the development period was shortened by approximately 4 months.

To maximize the implementation effects of 3DWorks, CTC will provide hands-on support closely aligned with the frontline for approximately 4 months of verification, covering operational training and utilization of basic functions. In the subsequent month, it will build the production environment, including the introduction of related CAD tools. Furthermore, by utilizing CTC's extensive knowledge in technology domains such as cloud security, PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), and data management cultivated thus far, it will achieve overall optimization so that 3DWorks smoothly integrates with existing systems.

Moving forward, CTC will further deepen its knowledge and business understanding cultivated in the engineering and technology domains of the manufacturing industry, and continue to support the creation of new value throughout the entire product lifecycle.
