The Japan Open Skateboarding, where the world's top Japanese athletes gather, will be held at the newly established Ark Town Utsunomiya. Along with the Japan Open title, a key focus of this tournament is the competition for designated athlete status.

To participate in competitions organized by the international governing body 'World Skate,' athletes must be ranked in the top 30 of the World Skate rankings and also be among the top 6 athletes from their respective countries. For men, Yuto Horigome, a two-time Olympic champion, is currently ranked 7th among Japanese athletes (20th overall). For women, Rin Akama, a Paris silver medalist, is ranked 10th overall but also 7th among Japanese athletes. Therefore, their participation in World Skate Tour events after June is not yet confirmed.

In this tournament that leads to the world stage, will the winner be a medalist or a new star?
