Crossfields (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Daichi Onuma), a non-profit organization, has produced and provided an interactive e-learning program themed on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) for approximately 20,000 employees of IHI Corporation (Koto-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroshi Ide). Post-program surveys revealed that about 60% of participants felt a change in their mindset, expressing a desire to 'promote DE&I,' demonstrating high effectiveness in 'internalizing DE&I.' (An interview with the IHI representative who introduced this program can be found here.)

We will host a free event on April 23 at 18:00 to delve into the value of this 'interactive e-learning program' with guest speakers including Mr. Sasou of BIOTOPE Inc. Please check the details and register via the link below.

Challenge of 'Internalization' Beyond Knowledge Acquisition While many companies in Japan prioritize DE&I as a management strategy, they often face the challenge that 'employees understand the meaning but do not practice it or internalize it at the field level.' IHI has made 'internalizing DE&I' a key company-wide priority for fiscal years 2024 and 2025. Seeking to deepen understanding, IHI collaborated with Crossfields to develop this program.

One-Hour Team Dialogue The program is designed to be completed in one hour. It features the representative of the Dialogue Japan Society, visually impaired staff, and various IHI employees. It includes 360-degree video experiences and exercises like self-introductions with eyes closed to encourage new perspectives. It also features interviews with employees sharing their real-world challenges, designed to spark dialogue among participants.

Proven Mindset Transformation Out of 15,393 survey responses, nearly 60% of participants stated they now 'want to promote DE&I.' Participants noted: 'I realized I am part of diversity,' 'I learned the importance of controlling unconscious bias,' and 'I finally understand how DE&I improves corporate value.'

Mr. Inoue from IHI’s HR Department commented: 'This program provided a valuable opportunity for each employee to rethink DE&I through their own sensibilities. It was effective in realizing our priority of internalizing DE&I.'

Crossfields continues to work toward a society where everyone can thrive by leveraging the power of dialogue.
