The medical imaging program 'TH-ZEY (Zeus),' developed by Soracentes Inc. (backed by Creek & River Co., Ltd.) to ensure medical safety through augmented reality (AR), officially received medical device certification from the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA) on April 1. This certification paves the way for insurance reimbursement, facilitating its introduction to many medical institutions. Thoracic drainage, essential since the era of Hippocrates, still carries risks of serious accidents because traditional ultrasound cannot function in air-filled chest areas. TH-ZEY overcomes this 'invisibility' by overlaying CT images directly onto the patient's body, effectively providing 'X-ray vision' to guide surgeons and prevent organ damage. CEO Kenji Suzuki, a professor at Juntendo University, led the project to commercialize this life-saving technology.
