Hideaki Tokunaga held the first concert of his "Hideaki Tokunaga 40th Anniversary Concert Tour 2026 COVERS & BEST" at J:COM Hall Hachioji (Hachioji City, Tokyo) on the 11th, where the venue was filled with the excitement of fans eagerly awaiting his return and the happiness of celebrating his anniversary.
As the tour title suggests, the live show progressed with a setlist that was truly a culmination, exquisitely weaving together his original hit songs and cover songs from his iconic "VOCALIST" series, which has become his life's work, and his new cover album "COVERS," released in January. His transparent voice, unchanged by time, and his deepened husky voice permeated every corner of the venue. He enveloped the audience with his mellow singing in his debut song and ultimate representative track "Rainy Blue," and then carefully spun out famous ballads deeply etched in people's memories, such as "Boku no Soba ni" and "Saigo no Iiwake." The audience quietly listened, not wanting to miss a single note, as his unchanging transparency from 40 years ago was joined by a deep embrace that only he can express now.
Songs from his latest album "COVERS" were also generously performed. While retaining the delicate expressiveness shown in his past "VOCALIST" series, the masterpieces of artists he confronted in his new work are imbued with a "strength" and "melancholy" that only he can express now. Coupled with the luxurious arrangements of the live band, the audience was captivated by the overwhelming persuasiveness unique to a live performance, different from the album.
And then, the nationally famous song "Kowarekake no Radio," which needs no explanation. The chorus that enveloped the entire venue told the story of how much his singing voice has accompanied the lives of so many people over these 40 years. During the encore, he said, "Last night, I went to eat Hachioji ramen. The 'Negi Chashu-men' was very delicious!" which drew loud cheers from local fans. The bright smile he showed during the encore was the best possible start, foreshadowing a wonderful 40th-anniversary year.
Furthermore, on this memorable first day of the tour, the schedule for the latter half of the 2026 national tour was officially announced. All 17 performances in the latter half, including the Tokyo International Forum on November 14, are scheduled to conclude at Akita Arts Theater Milhas on December 13. The 40th-anniversary year will spread across the country with even greater enthusiasm.
In addition, it has been decided to release a live CD & Blu-ray work recording the tour held in 2025. The live CD, to be released on May 13, will include all songs from the November 1, Tokyo Showa Women's University Hitomi Memorial Hall performance of the 2025 national tour "Hideaki Tokunaga Concert Tour 2025 ALL REQUEST." Songs carefully selected from countless requests submitted by fans depict a special, one-night-only story. Hit songs, covers, and "special" selections made possible only by requests, as well as different encore songs performed at each tour venue, are included. It has become a gem of a live album where the memories of songs accumulated over approximately 40 years intersect with the emotions born only at this moment. The first-press limited edition Blu-ray also includes a re-edited concert footage of the same performance.
