Nakatonbetsu Town Begins Full-Scale Implementation of Schooltakt at 'Nakatonbetsu Gakuen,' a New K-9 Integrated School Opening in April 2026

Nakatonbetsu Town is advancing urban development centered on the reconstruction of its junior high school. Beyond facility renewal, the town is promoting the creation of a '100-year learning hub' using community design methodologies, where both children and adults can continue learning throughout their lives.

This initiative centers on 'Nakatonbetsu Gakuen,' which opened in April 2026 as the first integrated K-9 compulsory education school in the Sōya region. The town plans to integrate library and community center functions into a comprehensive lifelong learning center. The project has been selected for the MEXT's FY2022 'Pioneering Development Project for Learning Environment in the New Era.'

Since the pandemic, even in Nakatonbetsu Town, with a population of around 1,500, serious issues such as school non-attendance have become apparent. Additionally, a cross-departmental support organization has been newly established, involving schools, certified childcare centers, the Board of Education, and the Health and Welfare Division, to build an information-sharing system for early response to children's SOS signals. At Nakatonbetsu Gakuen, efforts are also underway to advance educational DX, focusing on cumulative education from early childhood and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Background of Adoption: Seamless Information Sharing to Support the 4-3-2 System and Promote Collaborative Learning Through Diverse Expression

Nakatonbetsu Gakuen has introduced a 'block homeroom system' under a '4-3-2 model,' dividing the nine-year compulsory education period into three phases: four years (early stage), three years (middle stage), and two years (late stage). In this new framework, it is essential to seamlessly observe students' growth from multiple perspectives. At the same time, the town prioritized creating an environment where students' daily sharing and interactions could be widely facilitated through diverse expression methods. After a selection process involving collaboration between the Board of Education and school staff, Schooltakt was chosen.

In pursuing 'dialogic learning,' Nakatonbetsu Town emphasizes ensuring diverse communication methods—not limited to oral expression—but also including handwriting, text input, and reactions such as 'likes' to express empathy. The school also regularly holds joint classes across grades, from first to ninth graders. Schooltakt's flexible functions, which support diverse expression methods and output sharing tailored to developmental stages and individual characteristics, are considered highly effective in realizing the town's vision.

Using ICT as a Tool for a Rich Life: Creating the Town's Future Through Student-Centered Learning

Schooltakt is already being used in cross-grade activities such as 'Integrated Study Time,' and it is planned to be used as the foundation for school-wide joint classes in the future. The 'Interaction Map' feature, which visualizes student connections from study logs, is expected to serve as a system supporting multi-faceted student observations.

The key to ICT utilization is ensuring that children themselves become the main actors (owners) of their learning. We hope to nurture individuals who actively use ICT, rather than being used by it, and who can proactively shape fulfilling lives and careers.

Through ICT utilization, we aim to create a society where no one has to give up learning due to geographical constraints. Enriching 'Nakatonbetsu as a 100-year learning hub,' accessible from early childhood education to recurrent education without leaving the town, enhances residents' well-being and shows promise for creating an attractive town with education as a hub. Currently, the town is advancing initiatives such as collaborations with external educational institutions and universities, and we hope to disseminate these advanced initiatives from Nakatonbetsu.
