Demonstration Environment Equipped with the Latest Industrial Robots and Various Monitoring Systems

The AI Business Division of Common Products Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Osaka; Representative Director: Koji Kakikubo) has been gradually operating a new research and development hub since January 2026 at 'D-egg', an incubation facility on the Doshisha University campus in Kyotanabe City, Kyoto Prefecture.

Recently, against the backdrop of increasingly severe labor shortages in the manufacturing and logistics industries, there has been a rapidly growing need for on-site automation and labor-saving. At this facility, by combining the latest AI technology with robotics, we will promote demonstration experiments and joint research to solve the challenges faced by local companies and research institutions.

Now that the latest robot demonstration environment is fully equipped and the R&D structure is in place, we will begin full-scale operations and start accepting technical consultations.

A Demonstration Environment Realizing the Automation of Complex Processes and Collaborative Work with Humans

Along with diversifying consumer needs, local manufacturing and logistics sites are required to handle 'high-mix low-volume production' and 'flexible line changes.' This hub is fully equipped with actual units of the latest industrial articulated robots and digital welding machines, as well as collaborative robots linked with AI image recognition.

In particular, we have established a development structure that highly synchronizes actual machines with digital environments, such as verifying 'completely teaching-less' operations using our internally developed VISION sensor 'SpectraVISION' for industrial robots, and running simulations in a 'digital twin environment' that virtualizes the entire laboratory.

This makes it possible to conduct demonstration experiments anticipating next-generation work lines where humans and machines collaborate safely, ranging from the automation of welding processes that traditionally required skilled techniques to the picking and sorting of bulk parts in small-lot, high-mix production.

Promoting Open Innovation Connecting Companies, Universities, and the Region

An important purpose of this hub is not just to expand our own facilities, but to function as a place to generate co-creation with outside parties. By maximizing the location of 'D-egg,' operated by the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN (SME Support, JAPAN), we will promote advanced joint research with university institutions.

Furthermore, we aim to become a hub for industry-academia collaboration by sharing the latest technologies with local manufacturing and logistics companies and supporting human resource development. The 'Kyotanabe Robotics Lab' is a core facility that fuses advanced AI technology and robotics engineering to contribute to improving the industrial competitiveness of the entire region.

Development Background and Future Outlook

While labor shortage has become a major social issue, there is a reality that local manufacturing and logistics hubs, in particular, are finding it difficult to introduce the latest equipment due to investment costs and technical hurdles. To lower these barriers even a little, we have established an environment where technical verification can be conducted while experiencing the actual equipment firsthand.

Moving forward, we will hold facility tours and demonstrations using actual machines as needed, targeting local companies considering automation or labor-saving, as well as research institutions seeking joint research. Through technical consultations and the exchange of opinions while viewing the actual equipment, we will accelerate the social implementation of highly practical solutions that address on-site challenges.

We are accepting requests for tours and technical consultations from companies and research institutions at any time, so please feel free to contact us at the details below.
