BTS Wins Artist of the Year Again at American Music Awards, K-Pop Group Takes Song of the Year

LAS VEGAS (CNA) - South Korean supergroup BTS won the 'Artist of the Year' award again at the American Music Awards held in Las Vegas today. The hit song 'Golden' from the animated film 'Kpop Demon Hunters' was also named Song of the Year. Winners of the American Music Awards are determined by fan voting. BTS also took home the award for Best K-Pop Male Artist and won Best Summer Song for the track 'Swim'. In the Artist of the Year category, BTS defeated rivals including Taylor Swift, the most awarded artist in AMA history, as well as Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, and Harry Styles. This is the second time BTS has received this honor since 2021. Leader RM (Kim Nam-joon) told the screaming fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, 'We did it again!' RM added, 'Our deepest gratitude goes, as always, to ARMY (BTS fans) around the world. You have supported us for the past 13 years.' BTS members had suspended activities since 2022 to fulfill their mandatory military service in South Korea, but reunited this March to release their 5th studio album, 'ARIRANG', which dominated the Billboard 200 chart, setting a record for K-Pop artists. Other K-Pop musicians also shone at the American Music Awards. 'Golden', performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami for 'Kpop Demon Hunters', won three awards including Song of the Year, Best Vocal Performance, and Best Pop Song. The multinational girl group Katseye also won three awards, including New Artist of the Year and Best Music Video. Taylor Swift led with eight nominations but went home empty-handed and did not attend the ceremony. Sabrina Carpenter also did not appear but won three awards for 'Man's Best Friend', including Album of the Year, Best Pop Album, and Best Pop Female Artist. American 20-year-old singer-songwriter sombr also won three awards, including Best Rock/Alternative Song for 'Back to Friends'. He said on stage, 'I wrote this song when I was 19, depressed in my room alone. I never thought I would stand here one day.' British 70-year-old punk rock singer Billy Idol was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
