NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently remarked that 'there is no economic growth without energy' when asked about Taiwan's energy infrastructure for AI data centers. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) responded today, stating that Taiwan, bearing the responsibility of semiconductor manufacturing, has already proactively planned for AI electricity demand. Starting at the end of this year, four large gas-fired units at Taipower's Taichung and Hsinta power plants, totaling 5.2GW, will join the power system. Over the next five years (2027-2031), additional gas-fired units from Taipower's Tongxiao, Dalin, and Taichung Phase II projects, as well as private plants like Kuo-Kuang and Mailiao, will come online to support industrial development.
