Yunlin Prosecutors Launch Election Interference Task Force, Vigilant Against External Influence and Disinformation

In response to the local public official elections on November 28, the Yunlin District Prosecutors Office held an unveiling ceremony today for its 'Election Interference Investigation Task Force.' The office declared the integration of cross-agency forces to fully prevent illegal acts such as vote-buying and interference by external forces, adhering to the principle of 'investigating every lead and prosecuting every case with evidence.'

To prepare for the upcoming 2026 local elections, the Yunlin District Prosecutors Office held the ceremony, presided over by Chief Prosecutor Lin Hsiu-min, to comprehensively prevent illegal interference including bribery, violence, disinformation, election gambling, ghost voters, and foreign influence.

Lin stated that the patterns of election interference have shifted from traditional money and violence to new types of crimes such as foreign interference, deepfake videos, ghost voters, online disinformation, and the spread of false information via messaging apps, which pose a significant threat to the democratic system.

Lin emphasized that the prosecution will uphold the principle of 'investigating every lead and prosecuting every case with evidence,' dealing with all election interference offenses strictly according to the law, regardless of the target, party, identity, or status. At the same time, they will strictly observe administrative neutrality, procedural justice, and the principle of non-disclosure of investigations, aiming to protect clean elections and the core values of democracy and the rule of law with a fair and impartial law enforcement attitude.

According to statistics from the Yunlin District Prosecutors Office, there are currently 26 pieces of intelligence regarding vote-buying, including types such as sponsored travel and election gambling.
