German Parliamentary Friendship Group Chair: Taiwan-Germany Relations Should Not Be Subject to Chinese Interference

A cross-party German parliamentary delegation is visiting Taiwan. Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung stated during a luncheon today that Taiwan is a reliable partner for Europe's 're-industrialization' and 're-armament' strategic goals. Till Steffen, chair of the German-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, stated that exchanges between Taiwan and Germany should not be subject to interference from China and that they will continue to deepen cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release in the evening stating that Lin hosted a luncheon for the six-member delegation led by Steffen, expressing sincere welcome and gratitude for the German parliament's long-term commitment to deepening bilateral friendship and substantive cooperation. Lin stated that Taiwan and Germany are like-minded partners who value a rules-based international order. He thanked Germany for its continued support for maintaining the status quo of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. As a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue to work with democratic allies to safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region, while striving to enhance its self-defense capabilities. Lin noted that cooperation in key technology fields has flourished, and TSMC's investment in Dresden will further deepen the resilience of Taiwan-Europe democratic supply chains. Steffen stated that this is his sixth visit to Taiwan in recent years, and the friendship group is Taiwan's strongest support force in the German parliament. He emphasized that Germany attaches great importance to security in the Taiwan Strait and deepening economic cooperation. During their visit from the 24th to the 30th, the delegation will meet with President Lai Ching-te and other political leaders.
