Nantou County to Invest NT$1 Billion in Cable Car Project for Taiji Canyon, Targeting 2031 Launch

Central News Agency, Nantou, May 25. The Nantou County Government is planning a cable car system to connect the Taiji Canyon tourist area, forming a circular scenic route. The project is currently in the stages of land use reclassification, negotiated purchase, and project management tendering. The total budget is approximately NT$1 billion, with a target operational date of 2031. Taiji Canyon and Bagua Tea Garden in Zhushan Township are popular attractions. The county is promoting the 'Taiji Beauty (Tea and Bamboo) Low-Carbon Tourism Development Plan' to connect these sites. Deputy County Magistrate Wang Rui-de stated today that land use agreements for four stations and tower sites have been secured. Tendering for project management will begin in June, with construction tendering expected in October. Wang noted that Taiji Canyon, home to the Zhushan Ladder, remains a major attraction despite past closures. The county aims to create a sustainable, low-carbon tourism zone. Since the route is under 2,500 meters, the Ministry of Environment has waived the environmental impact assessment. The county will fund the construction and outsource operations to the private sector upon completion. The stations will include the Visitor Center, Zhulin Middle Station, New Qinglong Waterfall, and Bagua Tea Garden.
