US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, currently visiting India, stated today that the US may announce details later today regarding a formal agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East with Iran. AFP reported that Rubio told reporters in New Delhi, "I do believe that perhaps in the next few hours, the world will hear some good news." On his first visit to India, Rubio said the emerging deal would address US concerns regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Since the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, Tehran had largely blocked shipping through this energy chokepoint. Rubio added that the agreement would initiate a "process that will eventually lead us to what the President wants, which is a world where we don't have to fear or worry about Iranian nuclear weapons." US President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, yesterday afternoon that he had a "very good" call with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain, as well as Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir. He said they discussed Iran and all matters related to the peace memorandum, adding that "a deal has been largely negotiated" and is awaiting finalization by the US, Iran, and the aforementioned countries.
