Taiwan Stocks Surge 899 Points to Record High; Weekly Gain Hits 1095 Points

Following a decline in oil prices and a rally in US stocks, the Taiwan Stock Exchange opened higher and continued to climb on the 22nd, breaking through the 42,000-point mark. The index closed up 899.76 points at 42,267.97, marking a new record high and closing above 42,000 points for the first time. The weekly gain reached 1,095.61 points. TSMC, the market leader, closed at 2,255 NTD, up 25 NTD, an increase of 1.12%. The index closed at 42,267.97, up 2.18%, with a trading volume of 1.188 trillion NTD. The electronics sector index rose 2.56%, the financial sector index fell 0.11%, and the OTC index, representing small and medium-sized stocks, rose 3.28%. Among other major stocks, Hon Hai rose 2.5 NTD to 250 NTD (1.01% gain), MediaTek rose 310 NTD to 3,860 NTD (8.73% gain), and Delta Electronics rose 65 NTD to 2,095 NTD (3.2% gain). AI chip giant AMD announced on the 21st that it would invest over 10 billion USD in Taiwan's industrial ecosystem to meet the growing demand for AI infrastructure. Related stocks performed strongly today, with ASE Technology, Powertech, Inventec, Kinsus, and Innolux hitting the daily limit. Silicon photonics (CPO) stocks also saw multiple companies hit the daily limit, including Global Communication Semiconductors, VPEC, and LuxNet. Hongkai and OptoTech both rose over 7%. Memory stocks also strengthened, with AP Memory and Winbond hitting the daily limit, while PSMC and Etron rose over 7%, and Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology rose 6.98%.
