(CNA, by reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, May 21) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) stated today that the upcoming week will mostly see hot, clear, and stable weather. High temperatures across Taiwan are expected to reach 30 to 34 degrees Celsius, with some areas near mountains potentially seeing even higher temperatures. CWA forecaster Huang En-hung told the media that a weather front over the northern sea will gradually move away from Taiwan tomorrow. There will be some rainfall north of Taoyuan and in the mountainous areas from Hsinchu to Chiayi, while other regions will experience hot weather with partly cloudy to clear skies. Scattered brief afternoon showers are expected in the northern, Yilan, and Hualien areas, with less intensity than today. Huang noted that the weather from the 23rd to the 28th will be similar, characterized by hot, clear, and stable conditions with minor variations. On the 23rd, moisture will be at its lowest, with only brief afternoon showers in the mountainous areas of Yilan and Hualien. From the 24th to the 26th, there will be localized brief afternoon showers in Yilan, and sporadic brief showers in Hualien and the central and northern regions. Huang stated that from the 27th to the 28th, the area of afternoon showers will expand, with localized brief showers in the greater Taipei area and Yilan, and sporadic brief thundershowers in Hualien and the central and northern regions. Regarding temperatures, Huang pointed out that highs will generally reach 30 to 34 degrees, possibly higher in some areas near mountains or in open spaces, with lows ranging from 25 to 27 degrees. Huang also mentioned that there is a chance for a tropical disturbance to form and develop over the sea southeast of the Philippines next week, but this requires further observation.
