(CNA, Taipei, May 21, by reporter Wang Shu-fen) Conserving biodiversity is a key goal of the United Nations' "Convention on Biological Diversity." In Taiwan, beyond the public sector, many enterprises are proactively implementing this, with one packaging company combining its professional expertise with conservation to develop rescue boxes for injured birds, supplying them free of charge to rescue units across Taiwan. Three private enterprises involved in sustainability and environmental education, including Environmental-Friendly Seeds, Urho Sustainer, and TRIO, have been focusing on Taiwan's biodiversity development and are dedicated to integrating resources across industry, government, academia, and society. Today, they held the 4th "2026 Biodiversity Action Forum" and presented awards to eight companies that have responded to global biodiversity goals with concrete actions. Among the recognized companies, Fudy Printing's approach was praised by judges as highly creative. Addressing the high mortality risk of up to 60% for injured birds during transport annually across Taiwan, the company utilized its core business of packaging design to develop the professional "Safe Flight" rescue box. It provides these boxes for free to rescue units nationwide, reducing the mortality rate of injured birds during transportation. A representative from Fudy Printing expressed that it was incredible for the company to receive a biodiversity award for making packaging, and they realized that biodiversity is not just for ecology experts—everyone and every industry can participate. The company can protect living creatures through its packaging work, translating manufacturing technology into a living connection. This is not just a design project, but a cultural activation, proving that the manufacturing industry can also have warmth. Other award-winning companies include Runlong Construction, which, in a Taipei City development project on a plot of over 4,000 ping, developed only a little over 300 ping to conserve the Taipei tree frog, and scheduled construction to avoid the frog's breeding season. Others include Farglory Life Insurance for owl conservation, green energy developer Re-Green Co., Ltd. for leopard cat conservation, Shin Kong Security for solitary bee conservation, Accton Technology for monitoring urban ecosystems like bats, Nanshan Life Insurance for promoting marine restoration, and Chugai Pharma Taiwan for conserving the Taiwan blue magpie by encouraging natural farming methods among Pinglin tea farmers.
