APEC's 3rd Senior Officials' Meeting to be Held in Dalian, China in August

(CNA, Taipei, 21st) This year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is hosted by China. CCTV News reported today that the 3rd APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) of 2026 will be held in August in Dalian, Liaoning province. The report stated that the 2nd APEC SOM of 2026 concluded on the 19th at the Shanghai World Expo Center. According to the annual agenda, the 3rd APEC SOM of 2026 will be held in August in Dalian. At that time, Dalian will take over from Shanghai, and the global Asia-Pacific economic and trade community's attention will focus on the 'Bincheng' (a nickname for Dalian). The report said that Dalian has already begun various preparatory works for the meeting and will undertake this important host diplomatic event for APEC with a stance of high-level openness, continuing to deepen Asia-Pacific interconnectivity and practical economic and trade collaboration, and showcasing the new face of a northeastern window city for opening up. The report mentioned that as the 2026 APEC host, China will coordinate multiple senior officials' meetings, ministerial meetings, and various supporting cooperative activities throughout the year. The total number of related events is expected to be around 300, covering many key areas such as trade and investment, the digital economy, transportation, culture and tourism, food, energy, human resources, SME development, and women's cooperation. This year's APEC summit will be held in November in Shenzhen, Guangdong. Chang Chih-tsa, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations at Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on the 12th that Taiwan is a full member of APEC and will send delegations to APEC's annual routine senior officials' meetings, ministerial meetings, and the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. As China is holding APEC senior officials' meetings, trade ministers' meetings, and women's economy meetings in different provinces and cities, Taiwan has also sent delegations to participate. The current planning for participation is in accordance with the equal treatment Taiwan has received in the past.
