(CNA, by Tseng Yun-ting, Taipei, May 20) Fueled by strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI), Taiwan's export orders in April reached US$87.45 billion, the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced today. This set a new record for the month of April and was the second-highest single-month figure ever, marking a 48.1% year-on-year increase and the 15th consecutive month of growth. Cumulatively, export orders for the first four months of the year totaled US$319.36 billion, a record high for the same period, up 49.5% year-on-year. By product category, orders for information & communication and electronic products grew significantly, driven by the continued boom in emerging technology applications from the AI wave. Orders in April increased by 89.7% and 45.9% year-on-year, respectively.
