Temperatures May Exceed 30 Degrees Next Week; Local Heavy Rain Expected in Southern Mountains on the 18th

Taipei, May 17 (CNA) -- The Central Weather Administration (CWA) stated that the weather will be relatively stable this week, with precipitation mainly in the form of afternoon thundershowers. Tomorrow, local heavy rain may occur in the southern mountainous areas. It will be hot across the island, with high temperatures potentially reaching over 30 degrees Celsius. CWA forecaster Tseng Chao-cheng told CNA that the weather will be stable this week, with sunny and hot daytime conditions across the island and precipitation mainly consisting of afternoon thundershowers. However, as the environmental wind patterns change, the extent of the afternoon thundershowers will also vary slightly. Tseng said that tomorrow will see easterly winds, with partly cloudy to sunny skies across Taiwan. The eastern half and the Hengchun Peninsula will experience brief showers, while the southern region and mountainous areas south of Hsinchu will see localized brief afternoon thundershowers. He specifically warned of the possibility of localized heavy rain in the southern mountainous areas. Additionally, there will be sporadic brief showers in the southern region from early morning to noon tomorrow. Tseng noted that on the 19th and 20th, the winds will shift to southerly. Most of the island will be partly cloudy to sunny, with only the Taitung area and the Hengchun Peninsula experiencing sporadic brief showers. Localized brief afternoon thundershowers are expected in the greater Taipei and Yilan areas, as well as in all mountainous regions. From the 21st to the 22nd, the winds will turn southwesterly, bringing a slight increase in moisture. Sporadic brief showers are expected in areas north of Taoyuan, the Taitung area, and the Hengchun Peninsula. Localized brief afternoon thundershowers will occur in central and northern Taiwan, the Yilan-Hualien area, and all mountainous regions. Tseng said that on the 23rd and 24th, southwesterly winds will continue, with partly cloudy conditions across the island. Localized brief afternoon thundershowers are expected in the Yilan area and northern mountainous regions, with sporadic brief thundershowers in the greater Taipei, eastern, and central mountainous areas. Tseng mentioned that current observations indicate that before June, the frontal systems will generally be located over the Yangtze River basin or the sea north of Taiwan, resulting in relatively stable weather with occasional, but not abundant, moisture. Regarding temperature, Tseng said that there will be little change over the next week. Daytime temperatures across the island are likely to reach over 30 degrees Celsius, with the central and southern regions seeing around 33-35 degrees. Areas near the mountains in the south may still experience localized temperatures of 36 degrees or higher. Night and early morning low temperatures will be around 22 to 25 degrees. Tseng stated that a tropical disturbance may develop in the sea east of the Philippines in late May, but as forecasts from various countries still differ, the CWA will continue to monitor the situation.
