(New Delhi, 16th, Comprehensive Foreign Report) Tata Electronics signed an agreement today with chip manufacturing equipment supplier ASML to build the country's first front-end semiconductor wafer fabrication plant in Gujarat, India, in line with India's active push to develop its local chip industry.

According to Reuters, the parties said in a joint statement that ASML will provide technical support to Tata Electronics' planned 300mm wafer fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat.

ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet stated, "The Indian semiconductor industry is expanding rapidly and holds many highly attractive opportunities. We are committed to building long-term partnerships in this region."

According to the statement, the total investment for this collaboration amounts to $11 billion (approximately NT$347.3 billion) and will produce chips for the automotive, mobile device, and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that the agreement was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. The two leaders also met with CEOs from leading Dutch companies in the energy, ports, and technology industries.

Modi encouraged Dutch companies to increase investment in semiconductors, renewable energy, digital technology, and healthcare. The two leaders also called for the swift implementation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) reached between India and the European Union (EU) at the end of January this year.

India has committed billions of dollars in subsidies to attract semiconductor wafer fabs and related manufacturing industries and is currently advancing eight projects, including a $14 billion plant by Tata Electronics in Dholera, Gujarat.
