Local Group Initiates Boycott of Magistrate Vote; KMT County Chapter to Hold Briefings to Convey Ideals

Central News Agency, Changhua, May 16 (Reporter Cheng Wei-chen) - Huang Kun-huang, former vice chairman of the Tianwei Township council in Changhua County, has initiated the '2026 Changhua County Magistrate Fed-up Alliance,' calling for a boycott of the magistrate vote to awaken the Kuomintang (KMT). KMT Changhua County chapter chairman Hsiao Ching-tien said they will hold briefing sessions as soon as possible to convey the magistrate candidate's ideals.

For the KMT's Changhua County Magistrate nomination, KMT legislator Hsieh Yi-feng, Changhua County Industrial Development and Investment Promotion Committee director-general Hung Jung-chang, Changhua County Government councilor Ko Cheng-fang, and lawyer Wei Ping-cheng were vying for the nomination. Hsieh, Hung, and Ko had previously issued a joint statement, calling on the party's central committee to conscript one of the three to run. However, the KMT's Central Standing Committee passed a resolution on the 13th to conscript Wei Ping-cheng to run for Changhua County Magistrate.

Huang Kun-huang launched the '2026 Changhua County Magistrate Fed-up Alliance' on Facebook today, opposing the 'parachute' candidate and calling for a boycott of the magistrate vote. He told the media that Hsieh Yi-feng, Hung Jung-chang, and Ko Cheng-fang have been working in the local area for a long time, but unexpectedly, the KMT central committee chose a parachute candidate, which has severely demoralized local talent serving the community. He hopes to express dissatisfaction by boycotting the year-end magistrate election, making the central party leadership face the backlash from the grassroots.

Hsiao Ching-tien stated that he respects everyone's interpretation of 'parachute.' He explained that Wei Ping-cheng is from Shetou Township in Changhua County, his mother Wei Chen Chun-hui was a former Shetou Township mayor, and his family runs a hosiery business locally. Besides being a lawyer, he is also the vice general manager of a hosiery company and is not a parachute candidate.

Hsiao Ching-tien told the Central News Agency that the county party chapter is already planning to hold briefing sessions in various townships and cities. They will convey Wei Ping-cheng's vision and policies for his magistrate campaign to every resident as quickly as possible, believing that support for him will grow.
