(Central News Agency, Taipei, 14th, by reporter Chen Yu-ting) Considering the northbound traffic flow driven by factors including the development of the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park, the Taipei City Department of Transportation announced today that the southbound reversible lane on Section 5 of Chengde Road, which has been in place for over 15 years, will be shortened starting June 2. Motorists are reminded to pay attention to traffic control signals when passing through.
In a press release today, the Taipei City Department of Transportation stated that to improve road use efficiency, the reversible lane on Section 5 of Chengde Road will be shortened from June 2. The starting point of the reversible lane will be moved from the Shishang Road intersection to the Zhongzheng Road intersection. Motorists are urged to slow down when traveling through this section and follow the on-site signs, markings, and signals to ensure the safety of all road users.
Hsu Chuan-lun, Chief of the Control Facilities Section at the Traffic Engineering Office, explained that currently, one southbound lane on Section 5 of Chengde Road from Shishang Road to Jiantan Road is converted for inbound traffic from 7 AM to 9 AM. This current reversible lane system has been in place for at least 15 years.
Hsu said that in recent years, however, changes in the road system and regional development, including the development of the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park and the opening of the Zhoumei Expressway ramp connecting to Fuguou Road, have gradually reduced southbound traffic flow on Section 5 of Chengde Road between Shishang Road and Zhongzheng Road, while northbound traffic has gradually increased. By last year, the traffic volume in both directions was approaching a 50-50 split.
Hsu stated that considering the future development of the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park, northbound traffic flow during the morning peak is expected to continue to increase. Therefore, to rationally allocate road space and improve traffic efficiency, the reversible lane will be shortened starting June 2.
Hsu said that notice boards have been set up in the surrounding area to announce the change. Control facilities will be adjusted accordingly, and the Police Department will enhance guidance to prevent vehicles from entering the wrong lane. At the same time, the Traffic Engineering Office will continue to observe the implementation status and effectiveness and conduct reviews. (Editor: Su Chih-tsung) 1150514
