Cannes Film Festival to See 'The Dull-Ice Flower' Again, Taiwanese Comics Enter Market Exhibition

Central News Agency (Reporter Wang Bao-er, Taipei, 12th) The Cannes Film Festival and Marche du Film both opened today. Taiwanese works include the restored film "The Dull-Ice Flower" selected for the festival, and Taiwanese comic "Echoes Before Dawn" and feature film "Hanging Sun and Moon" selected for the market exhibition. The Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) has also set up a Taiwan Pavilion to continue promoting these works.

TAICCA Chairperson Hsueh Jui-yuan stated via a press release today that she is leading a delegation to Cannes this year. In addition to participating in the immersive market exhibition for the first time, hoping to combine Taiwan's local content and technological advantages to promote XR and cross-media narratives internationally, she is also particularly focused on the development of comic IPs.

Hsueh Jui-yuan mentioned, "As a fan of Taiwanese comics, I am very excited to see Lang Qi's 'Echoes Before Dawn' being proposed at the market exhibition, and I look forward to more international readers discovering Taiwanese comics, further expanding the possibilities for film and television adaptations." She also congratulated the restored work promoted by the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute for returning to the big screen at Cannes, allowing classic cultural assets to be seen by international film enthusiasts again, demonstrating Taiwan's vitality in innovation and heritage.

The restored film "The Dull-Ice Flower" was nominated for the Cannes Classics section this year, and the Taiwan-UK-France co-produced "Dancing with Fire: Yuja Wang Piano Art Immersive Exhibition" was nominated for the Cannes Film Festival's Immersive Competition section, reinterpreting classical music with XR and Location-Based Entertainment (LBE) technology.

For the market exhibition, the comic "Echoes Before Dawn" was selected for the "Shoot The Book!" section, which focuses on original published IPs with potential for film and television adaptation. "Echoes Before Dawn" is the only Asian work selected this year. The feature film "Hanging Sun and Moon" was selected for the "HAF Goes to Cannes" section of the market exhibition.

In addition to the selected works, TAICCA also promotes Taiwanese content for the Cannes Film Festival and Marche du Film. The content displayed at the Taiwan Pavilion in the market exhibition includes several works with international market potential, such as the Taiwan-Japan co-produced romance film "Like a Mouse, You," the trending new film "Death Bet," and the continuation of the famous horror IP "Zong Xie 4: Kundirana."

On the first day of the opening, TAICCA held an "Immersive Pitch Workshop" in Cannes, where official representatives from Cannes Immersive provided international trend analysis and pitching training to selected Taiwanese industry players, helping their content connect with the international market. TAICCA announced that it will subsequently hold immersive industry screenings, matchmaking events, and international buyer exchange meetings to facilitate industry对接 and cooperation opportunities.
