Son of National Police Agency Director-General Sued for Assault by Thief He Apprehended; Director-General: No Favoritism, Respect Judicial Review

Reports indicate that the son of National Police Agency Director-General Chang Jung-hsing was involved in a conflict after his hot pot restaurant was burgled, and the habitual thief subsequently filed an assault complaint. Chang Jung-hsing stated today that individuals should be responsible for their own actions, he will never show favoritism, nor has he intervened in the investigation, and he will cooperate with and respect the subsequent court proceedings.
United Daily News reported that Chang Jung-hsing's son operates a hot pot restaurant in Taichung. He and his friend, surnamed Hung, received a security alert and rushed back to the store, where they encountered a habitual thief named Lai. A physical altercation ensued. Lai accused Chang's son of beating him with a stick and scalding his hand with hot soup, leading prosecutors to indict Chang's son for assault and coercion. During the Taichung District Court's trial, Chang's son had already settled the assault case and changed his plea to guilty for the coercion charge. The Taichung court is expected to announce its verdict soon.
The National Police Agency issued a press release this morning stating that the reported incident involves the personal actions of Chang Jung-hsing's adult child and does not concern police official duties. The theft involved in this case, as well as the subsequent civil and criminal lawsuits between the parties, are being handled by relevant authorities according to law and are currently under judicial review.
Regarding the alleged actions of Chang's son, Chang Jung-hsing stated that individuals should bear the legal consequences and social responsibilities for their own actions. He consistently maintains an attitude of no favoritism and has never intervened in any individual case investigation. He will cooperate with and respect the subsequent court proceedings and their outcome.
