Ministry of National Defense: Fully Promoting AI Development to Inject New Momentum into Military Modernization

(Central News Agency reporter Wu Shu-wei, Taipei, 9th) The Ministry of National Defense held a "Special Lecture on Artificial Intelligence Governance and Discussion on the Concept of AI Integration into the Armed Forces." Vice Minister Hsu Szu-chien pointed out that the Ministry of National Defense will fully support specialized projects in various units, aiming to effectively enhance administrative operational efficiency through AI technology and inject new momentum into the modernization of the armed forces.

According to Military News Agency today, the "Special Lecture on Artificial Intelligence Governance and Discussion on the Concept of AI Integration into the Armed Forces" was held yesterday at Bo'ai Camp, inviting National Security Council Advisory Committee Member Li Yu-chieh to provide guidance. Participants included members of the Ministry of National Defense Artificial Intelligence Governance Committee, various military commands, headquarters, National Defense University, and National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, among other units.

Hsu Szu-chien stated in his address that lectures are merely inspiration, and implementing action is key. He encouraged cadres at all levels to transform from passive to proactive, actively apply diversified AI technologies, and the Ministry of National Defense will fully support specialized projects in various units, aiming to effectively enhance administrative operational efficiency through AI technology and inject new momentum into the modernization of the armed forces.

The special lecture invited Chen Ling-chih, Director of the Information Service Department of Academia Sinica and Executive Director of Taiwan AI Academy, to speak on "Winning the Future with Wisdom: AI Literacy, Practice, and Security." He explained the evolution of AI development from perception to reality and shared practical experiences from Academia Sinica, demonstrating how to effectively solve official pain points and simplify operational processes through building "Large Language Models (LLM)" with strict information security control, and developing speech recognition transcription systems, Q&A robots, and document verification.

Regarding military applications, Chen Ling-chih specifically proposed "Nine Reminders for Promoting National Defense AI." The content covers core concepts such as infrastructure resilience and human-machine collaboration, and explains the risks and challenges faced in integrating AI, reminding all units to establish mechanisms for judging the authenticity of information and strictly prevent the leakage of sensitive data. He also emphasized that the integration of AI technology is an urgent and important issue, and only by accelerating the implementation of technology and applications can the digital transformation of the armed forces be effectively strengthened.
