Cruise Ship Hantavirus Outbreak: Operator Says All Symptomatic Passengers Evacuated

(CNA, The Hague, 7th, comprehensive foreign news) A Hantavirus outbreak on the "MV Hondius" cruise ship, operated by the Dutch expedition company Oceanwide Expeditions, has caused 3 deaths. Oceanwide Expeditions stated today that all passengers showing Hantavirus symptoms have been evacuated from the cruise ship.

Agence France-Presse reported that Oceanwide Expeditions stated after transferring 3 passengers to the Netherlands that "there are no longer any symptomatic passengers on board."

Oceanwide Expeditions also said that among the three people transferred to the Netherlands, two were symptomatic and one was asymptomatic. All three are currently under medical care.

The "MV Hondius" is currently sailing from the Republic of Cape Verde in West Africa to the Canary Islands in Spain.

The "MV Hondius" became the focus of international attention after the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on the 2nd that it had received reports of a Hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship, with 3 deaths.
