(Central News Agency reporter Kao Hua-chien, Taipei, 6th) The Executive Yuan stated that social media platforms have become the main channel for understanding transitional justice, and the recovery of ill-gotten party assets is the most impressive policy. The location of the Executive Yuan is also an unjust heritage site of the 228 Incident. In response to the May 19th White Terror Memorial Day, the Executive Yuan will hold a special guided tour on May 15th, which can be reserved for visits.
The Executive Yuan today issued a press release stating that a wave of historical reflection has recently swept across Taiwanese society. To expand the social visibility of transitional justice issues, the Executive Yuan's Department of Human Rights, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Museum and the Ill-gotten Party Assets Settlement Committee, held the "2026 Book Festival – Book Market" at Treasure Hill Artist Village from April 18th to 19th, setting up booths and interacting with over 400 people.
The Executive Yuan stated that feedback from the public shows that social media platforms have become the main channel for most people to learn about transitional justice, and the recovery of ill-gotten party assets is the most impressive transitional justice policy.
The Executive Yuan also stated that in addition, the Department of Human Rights has recently focused on three aspects: guided tours of unjust heritage sites, public-private cooperation, and the preparation of educational resources, to enable transitional justice to reach a wider public through different channels.
The Executive Yuan stated that regarding guided tours of unjust heritage sites, the "Action Strategy for the Preservation of Unjust Heritage Sites" was promulgated in September 2025, promoting the preservation and revitalization of unjust heritage sites and allowing the public to conduct on-site investigations. The location of the Executive Yuan is one of the unjust heritage sites of the 228 Incident. In response to the upcoming May 19th White Terror Memorial Day, the Executive Yuan will hold a special guided tour on May 15th, where specialists will provide in-depth explanations of the historical context of the unjust heritage sites. The public is welcome to make online reservations for visits (website: https://www.ey.gov.tw/Eyvisit/A2724644448C178D).
Regarding public-private cooperation, the Executive Yuan's Department of Human Rights launched the "Memory, Imagination, Action: Transitional Justice and Human Rights Action Incubation Program" for the first time, with a results presentation scheduled for August 29th and 30th. Through results exhibitions, exchange activities, guided tours, and short talks, the program will showcase action proposals from various private sector teams.
Regarding the preparation of transitional justice educational resources, to make it easier for all sectors of society to access relevant domestic and international transitional justice educational resources, the Executive Yuan's Department of Human Rights commissioned the Taiwan Coexistence Youth Association to complete a resource inventory, compiling 190 resources, including usage guidelines, video guides, and teaching plans, to assist all sectors in conducting transitional justice education and related promotional activities (website: https://www.ey.gov.tw/tjb/93E05D81DDAF6843).
The Executive Yuan's Department of Human Rights stated that next year marks the 80th anniversary of the 228 Incident, the 40th anniversary of the lifting of martial law, and the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the Act on Promoting Transitional Justice. The Department of Human Rights will continue to promote transitional justice in diverse ways, integrating historical memory and human rights education into daily life, so that the public understands that democracy and freedom are hard-won, and using this as a starting point for all citizens to jointly safeguard democracy and freedom.
