Taipei Animal Shelter Promotes Adoption Benefits; Friendly One-Eyed Cat ''Da Jun'' Steals the Spotlight

The Taipei City Animal Protection Office announced today that adopting dogs and cats from the city animal shelter comes with comprehensive ''Happy Dog and Cat Adoption Welfare'' benefits. Currently, the shelter houses 309 cats, among which a one-eyed cat named ''Da Jun'' has captured public attention with his friendly personality and unique appearance. Da Jun, a 6-year-old mixed-breed tabby, was rescued last June after wandering into a residence. Diagnosed with glaucoma and blindness, he underwent surgery to remove an eyeball to alleviate pain. Despite having only one eye, he is exceptionally affectionate and constantly seeks attention from visitors. He was named after a one-eyed character from the movie ''God of Gamblers II.'' The office emphasized that caring for a one-eyed cat is no different from any other cat, requiring only a stable environment and regular check-ups. Adopters at the Taipei Animal Shelter enjoy 10 basic welfare benefits, with additional perks such as biennial health exams and lifelong vaccinations for those who adopt pets over 7 years old or those who have been in the shelter for over a year. A new shelter facility is expected to be completed in September 2027, with a total capacity for 1,302 animals.
