TAIPEI (CNA) -- The Taiwan stock market experienced volatile trading today, with the index climbing to a historical high of 40885.05 points in early trading. However, as electronic stocks turned from positive to negative, the index also fluctuated downwards, reaching 40522.78 points.
As of 10:52 AM, the Taiwan Weighted Index was at 40643.70 points, down 61.44 points, with a turnover of NT$624.139 billion.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) rose by 0.99% on the 4th. However, TSMC's stock price performed weakly today, falling by NT$35 to NT$2240 during intraday trading, with its market value slipping to NT$58.08 trillion, impacting the broader market by approximately 278 points.
Other major electronic stocks saw mixed performance. MediaTek, fueled by ongoing excitement over Artificial Intelligence (AI) Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) themes, surged to its daily limit up, reaching NT$3155, setting a new record high. Foxconn also performed well, rising over 2%.
ASE Technology Holding's stock price fluctuated downwards, and Delta Electronics briefly fell to NT$2145, down NT$75, a decline of 3.38%. The electronic sector index turned from positive to negative, once falling by 0.64%.
Traditional industry stocks saw mixed gains and losses. The plastics and glass sector indices rose by over 3%, showing relatively strong performance; the electromechanical sector index fell by over 1%, showing relatively weak performance.
