(Central News Agency reporter Tseng Yun-ting, Taipei, 4th) The Ministry of Economic Affairs today announced that the 2026 Taiwan-France Innovation R&D Cooperation Program has commenced its call for proposals. The inaugural call last year received an enthusiastic response, driving over NT$1.2 billion in R&D investment across six projects, demonstrating the potential for Taiwan-France innovation cooperation. This year's call focuses on space industry, smart technology, smart manufacturing, materials and biotechnology, and green energy technology, with government subsidies not exceeding 50% of the total project cost.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs explained in a press release that the Taiwan-France Innovation R&D Cooperation Program promotes joint corporate investment in key technology R&D, with Taiwan providing R&D subsidies and France's Public Investment Bank (Bpifrance) offering loans. Last year's first edition successfully facilitated six landmark cooperation projects covering areas such as AI, high-performance computing (HPC), silicon photonics, advanced displays, and biomedical applications. These projects not only demonstrated technological foresight but also high industrialization potential, creating tangible cooperation outcomes for both enterprises.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that this year's program is jointly supported by the Industrial Development Agency's "Industrial Upgrade and Innovation Platform Counseling Program" and the Department of Industrial Technology's "A+ Enterprise Innovation R&D Refinement Program." Domestic enterprises can apply based on their Technology Readiness Level (TRL): TRL 4 to 7 cases apply to the Department of Industrial Technology's A+ Program, while TRL 8 to 9 apply to the Industrial Development Agency's Industrial Innovation Platform Program.

Key areas for proposals include space industry (e.g., satellite and communication technology), smart technology (e.g., semiconductors, AI, and telecommunication technology), smart manufacturing, materials and biotechnology (e.g., rare earth refining), and green energy technology. The project duration is a maximum of three years. The Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that if proposals from both Taiwan and France pass review, the government will subsidize domestic manufacturers' R&D expenses, with the subsidy ratio not exceeding 50% of the total project cost.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that interested enterprises can submit their applications from June 1 to October 30 this year, hoping to continuously deepen Taiwan-France industrial linkages and strengthen bilateral cooperation capabilities in key technology fields.
