Zhongli Police Conduct Thunderclap Anti-Violence Operations During Labor Day Holiday, Cracking 113 Criminal Cases, Arresting 108 People

Taoyuan, May 3rd (CNA) - The Zhongli Precinct of the Taoyuan City Police Department executed a "Thunderclap Anti-Violence Special Project" during the Labor Day holiday. The police simultaneously combined duties for ensuring the safety of the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games and cracking down on drunk and drug driving. From April 26 to May 2, a total of 113 criminal cases were cracked and 108 people arrested, demonstrating their determination to combat crime.

Zhongli Precinct Deputy Chief Deng Po-chun today stated in a media interview that around 8:30 AM on May 2, police arrested a 45-year-old man surnamed Li who was found asleep in his car due to intoxication, with a modified handgun, bullets, and rainbow drugs in the passenger seat. His breathalyzer reading was 0.59 mg/L, and the case was sent for legal processing.

Additionally, around 7:00 PM on April 29, a special police task force, after days of evidence collection, raided an illegal professional mahjong gambling den with a search warrant when the time was right. They arrested the 32-year-old female operator, Kuo, and 12 gamblers on the spot, seizing over NT$180,000 in gambling funds and gambling equipment. The entire case was referred for investigation on suspicion of gambling.

Deng Po-chun said that this expanded inspection mobilized over 120 police officers for expanded inspections and intensive investigations. They cracked 29 fraud cases (including 8 ATM mule and card collector suspects) and simultaneously apprehended 8 wanted fugitives for fraud. They also cracked 12 theft cases and apprehended 12 wanted fugitives for theft. 13 drug cases were cracked, and 3 wanted fugitives for drugs were apprehended, totaling 32 wanted fugitives arrested. There were also 6 public hazard cases and others, demonstrating effective crime suppression.

Deng Po-chun pointed out that during the special project period, 3 male and 2 female missing foreign workers and 2 male and 5 female foreign nationals overstaying their visas were also apprehended, all of whom were transferred to the specialized team for processing in accordance with regulations.

Zhongli Precinct Chief Lin Ding-tai stated that this operation, coinciding with the Labor Day holiday and the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, mobilized all police forces to conduct expanded inspections and various special project duties. They continuously and vigorously swept through key public safety issues such as fraud, drugs, gambling, and violent crimes.
