(Central News Agency Website, May 1) According to the latest information from the Central Weather Administration, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred tonight at 8:39 PM. The earthquake had a depth of 98.3 kilometers, with its epicenter located 38.7 kilometers east-northeast of Yilan County Government (in Taiwan's eastern waters). The maximum intensity of Level 4 was observed in Yilan County, Hsinchu County, Nantou County, and Hualien County.
Following the earthquake, the Central Weather Administration issued a disaster warning message (national alert) for Taipei City, Keelung City, New Taipei City, Yilan County, and Taoyuan City, reminding the public to be vigilant against strong shaking and to seek nearby shelter by "dropping, covering, and holding on."
