Central News Agency (Reporter Lu Yan-tzu, Taipei, 28th) The 2026 vehicle license tax has been levied since April 1st this year. The Ministry of Finance's Taxation Administration today reminded that the payment deadline is April 30th this year. Taxpayers are requested to pay within the deadline. If the tax is not paid in full within the deadline, a 1% surcharge will be imposed for every 3 days overdue, up to a maximum of 10%. If not paid within 30 days, it will be referred for compulsory enforcement.
The Ministry of Finance's Taxation Administration today issued a press release, reminding taxpayers who have lost or not yet received their vehicle license tax payment notice to promptly inquire or apply for a replacement at the local tax collection agency where the vehicle is registered, or its service counter stationed at the motor vehicle supervision agency.
According to the Vehicle License Tax Act and the Tax Collection Act, if a vehicle owner or user fails to pay the tax in full within the prescribed payment period, a 1% surcharge will be imposed for every 3 days overdue, up to a maximum of 10%. Those who still fail to pay within 30 days will be referred for compulsory enforcement; for vehicles with overdue tax that are found to be using public roads after the expiration of the overdue period, a fine of up to one time the amount of the payable tax will be imposed.
Facing the upcoming May income tax filing season, the Ministry of Finance also issued a press release today, stating that Minister of Finance Chuang Tsui-yun today visited the Daan Branch of the National Taxation Bureau of Taipei to inspect the income tax filing service provision, and also visited the tax filing computer rooms of Chunghwa Telecom and Trade-Van Information Services Co., Ltd. to check the readiness of the tax filing system and customer service personnel.
The Ministry of Finance reminded that inquiry for income and deduction amounts is available from today. As May 1st this year is a national holiday, tax collection agencies will not provide over-the-counter tax filing services, but the public can file taxes online (including mobile phones) from 0:00 on May 1st and use various payment channels such as credit cards, demand (savings) deposit accounts, IC financial cards, and electronic payment accounts to complete their filing.
