Thomas Cup: Taiwan Men's Team Faces Uphill Battle After 2-3 Loss to Korea

Chengdu, April 27 (CNA) - The Taiwan men's national badminton team experienced a roller-coaster tie against Korea at the Thomas Cup today. After taking a 2-0 lead, Taiwan's momentum stalled, resulting in a 2-3 defeat that leaves their quarterfinal hopes hanging on the final match against Denmark.

Taiwan started strong with veteran Chou Tien-chen winning the first singles point. This was followed by a solid performance from the first doubles pair, Wang Chi-lin and Chiu Hsiang-chieh, who put Taiwan on the brink of victory.

However, Korea mounted a fierce comeback. Chi Yu-jen lost the second singles in a hard-fought three-game match. The second doubles pair, Lee Zhe-huei and Yang Po-hsuan, also fell in a close three-game encounter, tying the overall score at 2-2. In the deciding fifth point, Lee Chia-hao took the first game but was ultimately overtaken by Korea's Cho Hyeon-woo.

Wang Chi-lin noted after his win that while individual performance was decent, team losses are a shared responsibility. Taiwan, currently with a 1-1 record in Group D, will face powerhouses Denmark in a must-win situation tomorrow to determine who advances to the knockout stage.
