Taipei Zoo today addressed concerns regarding rats within its premises, stating that immediate action was taken upon discovery. Since implementing reinforced anti-rat measures in the Amphibian and Reptile House in February and March this year, no further incursions have been detected. Spokesperson Tsao Hsien-shao explained that during waterproofing construction last year, open pipes allowed rodents to enter. However, post-construction management has significantly improved. He emphasized that the zoo's proximity to mountains makes complete elimination of rats difficult, but the facility remains vigilant. Importantly, historical pathological data shows no animal deaths attributed to Hantavirus, and the zoo continues regular health checks to monitor potential zoonotic risks.
