Taipower stated that a power outage affecting over 5,000 households occurred at noon in parts of Taichung's North and East Districts due to an underground cable fault, and personnel have been dispatched for investigation and repair. Some netizens posted on the social media platform Threads today, saying that at noon today, the underground food court at Chungyo Department Store suddenly lost power. It was quite stuffy due to the lack of air conditioning, and traffic lights at nearby intersections also stopped working. Taipower's Taichung District Operating Office stated via a press release that at 12:47 PM today, parts of Taichung's North District (Section 3, Sanmin Road, Yizhong Street) and East District (Lixing Road, Section 4, Ziyou Road) experienced a power outage due to an underground cable fault, with lines overheating and emitting smoke. Currently, 5,239 households are affected, and Taipower has dispatched personnel to the site for investigation and repair. The exact cause of the incident is under investigation. Chungyo Department Store stated that Building A of the department store lost power, and customers have been guided to unaffected Buildings B and C. Emergency lighting has also been provided.
