Hsu Chia-ching: Aviation Security Turned into a Weapon; The World Must Defend Rights

OCAC Chairperson Hsu Chia-ching pointed out today in New York that the obstruction of President Lai Ching-te's visit to Eswatini is more than just a diplomatic issue for Taiwan; it is a sign that global aviation freedom and safety are being turned into weapons, causing division in the international community. Hsu attended the annual gala of the North American Taiwanese Medical Association (NATMA) 2026 Greater New York Chapter. She stated that while Taiwan's visits to its allies might not usually draw extreme attention, China's aggressive threats against multiple countries have become highly visible to the world, representing a diplomatic loss for Beijing. Hsu argued that China is attempting to weaponize common airspace to blockade and threaten other nations. She emphasized that ICAO's goal is to ensure navigation freedom, yet safety has become an attack tool. 'If we do not defend our human rights now, we may all face similar challenges in the future,' she warned. Hsu contrasted Taiwan's aid in medicine, agriculture, and education—based on mutual support—with China's interest-driven and conditional diplomacy.
