Taipei, April 25 (CNA) The Legislative Yuan will convene a hearing of the Committee of the Whole House on April 27 regarding the proposed impeachment of the President. Government officials and relevant social figures will be invited to provide testimony. The Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) caucuses will appoint legislators for questioning. The impeachment review meetings are scheduled for May 13 and 14, followed by a roll-call vote on May 19. The impeachment process was initiated after Premier Cho Jung-tai refused to countersign the Finance Act last December. The opposition parties passed the resolution to proceed with the impeachment on December 26. According to the constitution, an impeachment requires a 2/3 majority in the Legislative Yuan to be sent to the Constitutional Court, where it needs approval from 2/3 of the Grand Justices to take effect and remove the President from office.
