(CNA Reporter Hao Hsueh-chin, Taichung, 24th) Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen stated today that she spoke with Raymond F. Greene, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Taipei Office yesterday, regarding mutual development of the drone and unmanned vehicle industry to jointly create Taiwan's next "Mountain that Protects the Nation" (key economic pillar).

Greene, along with NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren, visited Taichung yesterday. Lu Shiow-yen mentioned that they specifically discussed the immense global demand for drones and unmanned vehicles, whether for military or commercial use. Following semiconductor chips, both sides aim to jointly build Taiwan's next core industry.

She said that while the core technologies for drones globally are primarily in the United States, the necessary industrial foundations, including aerospace, semiconductor chips, optics, and precision machinery, are heavily concentrated in Taichung. "They will provide us with the technology and specifications, and they have a massive buyer's market. We, in turn, can handle research, development, and manufacturing." The two sides will cooperate complementarily, establishing Taichung as the leading city to develop the central region's industry.

After Greene visited Kuomintang (KMT) Chairperson Cheng Li-wun, the media was curious if he would visit Lu Shiow-yen next. While attending the unveiling ceremony of the Xiehe Neighborhood Activity Center in Xitun District, Lu answered during a media interview that she and Greene have always been very good friends. Whenever Greene comes to Taichung, he almost always catches up with her.

In addition, Lu Shiow-yen will spend the weekend of the 25th and 26th campaigning for candidates in New Taipei City and Kaohsiung City. Lu said that for so many years, she has done her part, using her days off to help comrades, just like members of other parties. As long as they are good candidates, she will strongly recommend them. Using weekends to campaign is natural; she ensures fair recommendations for excellent candidates. (Editor: Lee Ming-tsung) 1150424
