PTS Launches Taiwan-France Co-produced Documentary; 2 National Central University Scholars Gain International Recognition

(CNA Reporter Hung Su-chin, Taipei, 22nd) PTS launched the Taiwan-France co-produced science documentary "Return to the Moon: Space New Century." Two key technologies and scientific bases in the film are drawn from the research contributions of Loren Chang, Chair of the Department of Space Science and Engineering, and Amanda Hsu, Associate Professor of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering at Taiwan's National Central University.

The documentary uses NASA's ongoing "Artemis Program" as its narrative backbone. Taking a first-person perspective, it follows the first female astronaut to land on the moon, Amanda, from rocket launch to stepping onto the lunar south pole. The core of the story focuses on the search for lunar water resources, human's future establishment of a lunar base, manufacturing space fuel, and the crucial first step towards Mars.

This documentary ingeniously integrates dramatic tension with rigorous scientific validation. The two key technologies and scientific bases presented in the program are drawn from the outstanding research contributions of Taiwan's National Central University.

The documentary features the "Deep Space Radiation Probe" developed by Distinguished Professor Loren Chang's team from the Department of Space Science and Engineering. This research is expected to significantly improve equipment's radiation resistance, directly echoing the dramatic solar flare plots in the documentary, providing concrete technical guarantees for the safety of personnel on future lunar and space missions.

The "Biomedical Research on the Impact of Lunar Dust on Life" led by Associate Professor Amanda Hsu's team from the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering reveals the damage risk of lunar particles penetrating cells. This provides scientific guidance that cannot be ignored for the design of spacesuits and lunar bases.

The two Taiwanese scholars are the only Asian scientists selected in this moon landing documentary, which is primarily from a Western perspective, fully demonstrating the international visibility of Taiwan's academic research.

The documentary "Return to the Moon: Space New Century" is divided into 2 episodes, 60 minutes each, and has been confirmed to air on global flagship channels such as AMC in the US, SVT in Sweden, SRF in Switzerland, and ZDF in Germany. In Taiwan, it will premiere on PTS channels at 9 PM on Thursdays, the 23rd and 30th, broadcast simultaneously on PTS+, and the English version will be available domestically on TaiwanPlus.
