(CNA Reporter Su Mu-chun, Taichung, 22nd) Wu Chung-ho, president of the Taichung Bar Association, was recently slapped by a woman surnamed Lin while observing a hearing at the Taichung District Court. The court held a hearing today, during which Lin appeared and accused the opposing lawyers of colluding with a fraud ring. Wu stated he hopes the trial will serve to educate Lin and make her realize her behavior is wrong.

The Taichung District Court held a hearing today. Lin represented herself as mentally sound and accused the opposing lawyer of colluding with a fraud ring and murdering her grandfather. Regarding the prosecutor's charges of assault and intimidation, Lin avoided answering whether she pleaded guilty, instead demanding the court request video footage from media and bailiffs to restore the course of events.

Wu Chung-ho also appeared in court. He told the media afterward that he hopes the trial will provide Lin with legal education so she recognizes her actions are wrong. He noted that her accusations of lawyers colluding with fraud rings are completely misguided and that she should not vent her personal grievances on others.

The case originated from a civil dispute between Lin and her relatives. Dissatisfied with her brother's appointed lawyer, Lin verbally abused the female lawyer during a first-instance hearing at the Taichung District Court and even attempted to slap her, though the lawyer dodged and avoided injury.

During a subsequent hearing, after her brother hired a second female lawyer, Lin chased and assaulted the lawyer, pulling her hair and throwing an unknown liquid at her. Following an appeal to the second instance, a third female lawyer hired by Lin's brother was also verbally abused and threatened by Lin at the Taiwan High Court Taichung Branch.

After two of the victimized lawyers filed charges, the Taichung District Prosecutors Office indicted Lin for assault, intimidation, and public insult under the Criminal Code. When the case was heard at the Taichung District Court in February this year, Wu Chung-ho and Taichung Bar Association Secretary-General Hou Pei-chi attended to observe. Lin took out her phone, took pictures of Wu and others in court, and threatened to kill them.

Before a hearing on March 17 this year, as Wu and several lawyers were preparing to observe, Lin slapped Wu outside the courtroom, causing injury and verbally insulting him. The next day, she threatened to kill Wu and others on Facebook. (Editor: Li Hsi-chang)
