Police Chief Dismissed After Pepper Spray Incident Involving Ko Wen-je; Minister Liu Shih-fang Respects Police Agency's Punishment

The Taichung City Police Bureau investigated the incident where former Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je was pepper-sprayed. Chou Chun-ming, the chief of the Sixth Precinct, was disciplined and transferred for causing harm by spraying pepper spray on the ground four times. Minister of the Interior Liu Shih-fang stated today that she respects the punishment by the National Police Agency and will respect its sentencing.

At the Legislative Yuan session today, which invited Premier Cho Jung-tai and others to report on the preparation of the "115th Fiscal Year Central Government Budget" and for questioning, Liu Shih-fang made the above remarks before the meeting.

Liu Shih-fang pointed out that regarding the handling of Chou Chun-ming, the Ministry of the Interior respects the punishment by the National Police Agency.

When media asked if she thought the processing time was "too long," Liu Shih-fang explained that the National Police Agency had investigated very clearly. Chou Chun-ming was the duty commander, and during the handling process, he must accept punishment for any failures in timing or execution. The scope of punishment respects the sentencing of the National Police Agency.

As for the question raised by a Taiwan People's Party candidate that Chou Chun-ming's background might involve political affiliation, Liu Shih-fang responded that she does not comment on individual candidates.
