MAC: CCP first introduced 10 measures, then obstructed President Lai's visit – a two-pronged strategy

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) severely condemned the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) pressure on relevant countries to temporarily cancel flight permits, obstructing President Lai Ching-te's visit to ally Eswatini. The MAC pointed out that the CCP's obstruction, immediately after announcing 10 measures targeting Taiwan, demonstrates its 'goodwill is false, threats are real' two-pronged strategy.

(Central News Agency reporter Liao Wen-chi, Taipei, 21st) In response to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) pressuring relevant countries to temporarily cancel flight permits and obstructing President Lai Ching-te's visit to ally Eswatini, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) today issued a severe condemnation, pointing out that the CCP's obstruction of the President's visit immediately after announcing 10 measures targeting Taiwan demonstrates that the public should recognize the CCP's two-pronged strategy.

The MAC expressed severe condemnation and emphasized that the Republic of China is a sovereign state. Over the years, the President has visited Eswatini multiple times, and maintaining diplomatic ties is Taiwan's legitimate right, which the CCP has no right to comment on, let alone interfere with.

The MAC pointed out that the CCP had just announced its so-called 10 policy measures, and immediately maliciously sabotaged our President's visit, highlighting that Beijing's approach to Taiwan is 'goodwill is false, threats are real,' and 'one hand offering favors, the other hand suppressing.' The public should recognize the CCP's two-pronged strategy.

The MAC sternly warned the Beijing authorities, "The Republic of China has the right to interact and develop relations with all countries worldwide. The CCP's barbaric suppression will not change Taiwan's determination to engage with the world and participate in the international community. Our government will continue to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and calls on the international community to jointly condemn the CCP's brutal actions and support Taiwan's right to interact with various countries through concrete actions."

President Lai was originally scheduled to visit Eswatini on the 22nd. On the eve of his departure, Presidential Office Secretary-General Pan Meng-an urgently held a press conference at 6 PM, stating that three countries, including Seychelles, Mauritius, and Madagascar, unexpectedly and unreasonably canceled flight permits for the presidential plane, and therefore the President's visit would be postponed.

Pan Meng-an read a statement from the Presidential Office, strongly condemning Beijing's brutal actions, which not only impacted flight safety and violated international norms and conventions but also constituted a blatant interference in other countries' internal affairs, undermining the regional status quo and hurting the feelings of the Taiwanese people.
