(Central News Agency reporter Cao Ya-yan, New Taipei, 21st) At noon today, a flatbed truck transporting an armored vehicle caught fire while traveling on National Freeway 3 in the Miaoli section, spreading to the armored vehicle. After extinguishing the fire and transferring the vehicle, it continued northbound. In the afternoon, while passing through the Ankeng section, the armored vehicle began emitting smoke. Firefighters arrived to spray water for cooling, and the situation was resolved around 5 PM.

The National Highway Police Bureau stated that a flatbed truck carrying two military armored vehicles caught fire today while traveling northbound on National Freeway 3 in the Tongxiao section of Miaoli County, and the fire spread to the armored vehicle on board. The driver of the flatbed truck noticed smoke coming from the right rear wheel while driving, immediately pulled over to the outer shoulder to check, and the vehicle spontaneously combusted and caught fire.

Miaoli police and firefighters arrived to rescue, and after extinguishing the fire around 2 PM, personnel at the scene arranged to move the armored vehicle to another articulated truck, which then continued northbound.

The police stated that around 4 PM, when the vehicle was passing through the northbound 33.8-kilometer mark in the Ankeng section of New Taipei, the transported armored vehicle was suspected of emitting smoke due to high temperature, but it did not catch fire. Firefighters arrived to spray water for cooling, and the cooling was completed and the situation resolved at 5:34 PM. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
