Anthropic revealed in early April that its annualized revenue had tripled from the previous quarter, reaching over $30 billion, surpassing competitor OpenAI for the first time.
Amodei also visited the White House last week to meet with government officials, and the atmosphere of their interaction was significantly more relaxed than before. In February, Anthropic had angered U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth by insisting that its technology should not be used for mass surveillance or fully autonomous weapon systems.
The White House spokesperson told AFP: "We discussed opportunities for cooperation and common approaches and agreements to address related challenges as this technology expands."
These comments indicate a shift in the White House's attitude. Months prior, after Anthropic refused to allow the Pentagon unconditional use of the Claude model, then-President Trump had instructed government agencies to "immediately cease" using the company's technology.
Anthropic subsequently filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration and challenged Hegseth's decision to place it on a "supply chain risk" list.
