Vance: US-Iran Mistrust Cannot Be Resolved Overnight, But Iran Wants a Deal

(CNA, Washington, 14th) U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated today that there is a considerable amount of mistrust between the United States and Iran, which cannot be resolved overnight; however, he also noted that Iranian negotiators hope to reach an agreement, making him feel "very good" about the U.S.'s current position.

According to a Reuters report, U.S. President Donald Trump stated today that the U.S. and Iran might restart peace talks in Pakistan within the next two days to end the war. The first round of peace talks between the two sides in Pakistan broke down last weekend, after which Washington imposed a blockade on Iranian ports.

The fragile 2-week ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran has 1 week remaining. Vance participated in last weekend's negotiations.

Speaking today at an event for the conservative organization "Turning Point USA," he said: "There is undoubtedly a lot of mutual mistrust between Iran and the United States, and this problem cannot be solved overnight."
