(Central News Agency reporter Wang Hung-kuo, New Taipei City, April 20) KMT New Taipei City mayoral candidate Lee Ssu-chuan once stated that if elected mayor, he would solve the traffic congestion problems in Zhonghe and Yonghe. New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih responded today that the city government will go all out to ensure smooth traffic between Taipei and New Taipei.
Hou Yu-ih attended the opening ceremony for the 'Service at the Games' for the National Paralympics today. After accepting media interviews, he was asked for his opinion on Lee Ssu-chuan's statement about improving traffic congestion in Zhonghe and Yonghe if elected.
Hou Yu-ih stated that actually, concerning the traffic service process in Zhonghe, the city government listens to a lot of professional consultations daily through the traffic service platform and is always ready to make adjustments. The city government will go all out to ensure that traffic in Taipei and New Taipei is smooth at all times.
Lee Ssu-chuan also responded to media interviews today regarding the improvement of traffic in Zhonghe and Yonghe. He stated that some councilors are well aware that the improvement of the Gongguan Roundabout was to address traffic accidents, as most accidents involved New Taipei citizens from Zhonghe, Yonghe, and Xindian. He emphasized that after the improvement of the Gongguan Roundabout, traffic accidents indeed decreased by half, and traffic returned to the situation before the roundabout was dismantled. He does not understand why councilors are always slandering and attacking him, saying 'they can't stand to see what Lee Ssu-chuan does well, or what others say is good.' He stressed that if there is dissatisfaction with traffic, he is willing to make improvements and refine them. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) April 20, 2026
